New Years Resolutions? Naaah...

Yes, I know, it took me a while to wake up this year. What can I say, I'm a taurus, I start everything slower, but when I do, get out of my mf way ! :))

I don't have New Years Resolutions. Weir, ah. Why? Because I don't find them any different that normal resolutions. I have plans, a list of things I want to do, but not because it is new year, but because I want to do that shit.

In no particular order:
1. I want to dye my hair reddish. Not crazy red, but a natural tone. Something like this:

2. Made my bucket list and it is quite looong :S I will share it with you one of these days :)
3. Go to the gym to loose about 10 kg. The goal is not exactly to loose weight, cause I am not fat for my height, but to have firm muscles, which will add up with about 10 kg's less than I have now.
4. I read a saying one of these days : "sometimes you just have to be your own here and save yourself", so I need to kick off my lazy shoes and put on my hero shoes :)
...and so on.

k. oh, oh, and not to forget, you need to watch (if you get the chance) "A Woman of Substance" and "Hold the Dream". One great story (these are two mini series) about what a determined woman can do and that there is no "can't" just "won't".

Hey guys!

Sorry for the big fallout, I've been out of my inspiration corner for a long time and couldn't write anything. I didn't wanted to disappoint you with crappy writing or non interesting posts so I just didn't write. You can say I've had a writers block :))

ok, so let's get baaack to business!
Don't think that just because I haven't been writing, I didn't do anything! No, no, no.
I've been gathering, and gathering a lot. As in gathering, gathering, gathering, gathering, gathering, gathering, gathering... and gathering, gathering, gathering, gathering. You get my point :)

Here is a little something I've gathered just the other day.
Ever since I was younger I loved to gather (you see a pattern by now) recipes for medical remedies and home made beauty products. When I was younger from magazines then from the internet. And man, I hate the internet for being sooo large and full with information. You can never stop and say: "Good, now I know all there is to know about ....".

Here are a few blogs and recipes which I've found and tried, others are WIP.

I've been reading Babble's "Top 50 Mom Blogs, 2010" and I was bored out of my mind...
I needed to get to place 6 to actually find a cool blog! Place 6 was Pioneer Woman who I've been admiring for a while now.
I never thought that some moms can be this boring for non-moms. The surprising part is that they seem to be interesting for other moms... yet, don't ask me why cause I'm not going to waste more precious time to figure this one out.

The other night I was doing some work while in the background the TV was on.At one point I became attentive to a very interesting documentary which I would like to share with you also.

The documentary was about "Four overweight Brits, addicted to fast food meals, take the road to Pakistan, where they are welcomed by a community of shepherds, who use the same diet for thousands of years. It remains to be seen whether the four Europeans will be able to break bad habits and learn to eat healthy and unexpectedly delicious." (source)
"The four Brits will go 'cold turkey' as they swap chicken nuggets for goat; pizzas for super lean yak; and tinned ravioli for apricot soup. It's a nutritionally balanced, optimal diet which has resulted in locals living to a ripe old age, free from obesity related diseases like diabetes, heart disease and cancer; but to our Brits - who fail to consume five fruit and veg a month, let alone a day - the diet will be tasteless, monotonous and downright unpalatable." (source)

At first this might sound a bit extreme for them, but in time they realise that food actually tastes very good and their senses just needed a "retraining" :)
Their whole life is changed by this experience. It is wonderful to see how an experience like this changes gradually the life of a person in a positive way.

I do admire anyone who does something from passion, not for the money.
In the same category are the very few blogs without ads. I don't blame the ones that make their living from the ads they support on their blogs, but when you start doing it for money, it has no more ... sincerity.
From there on it's "oh my, what to write to keep my followers interested and keep the ad request flowing in". You somehow loose the reason why you started blogging in the first place.
(Here I am making the assumption that you didn't started out blogging for the money, sorry, if that doesn't apply to your case.)
I have friends who will confirm what I just stated. With widely popular blogs of which they are bored of. They cannot afford to always be 100% sincere because they might just lose some followers. Screw that!
Either you choose to stand by your thought & opinions and find a day job to earn your money, either remain a hypocrite blogger who searches to please others by any means.

When I saw "Urbane Fruits" and this cute little button, I automatically said : "wow, it is refreshing to know that bloggers like this still exist."

I don't know how you are with these things, but I am utterly impressive when it comes to this subject.
What I am mumbling about?
It is simple and most "common" : homeless people.
I cannot imagine how it is not to have a home to go to or people who care for you and expect you home.
We are most fortunate: we cannot imagine because we never lived it. Say thanks to that right this second!
When I see a homeless person I am always very impressed and sad all of the sudden. I am sorry I cannot help each one of them. I do not care what are the reasons behind their street life, but it is sad. Totally...
Coming from a small city, I don't have a lot of experience with seing homeless people on every corner. The big city now takes up a lot of my "reasons to smile". Homeless, sad and sick persons on every corner.
Yesterday evening I was coming home from the market from where I bought, among other things, two breads. Why? I do not know, because I had one more in the fridge, so I obviously didn't needed two. On the way home I heard a voice behind me "Miss! Can you spare a piece of bread for me?" I am always impressed when they don't ask for money, but food. He was around 40, poorly dressed (considering that outside there were around -5 Degrees and a terrible wind), with a big bag right besides him. I didn't say a thing (always speechless in these situations), just gave him the extra bread... and walked away.
I cannot get it out of my head the way he almost ran for the bread. He didn't attach me, but took the bread and with tearful eyes he thanked me over and over again...
How can that not impress you? It was "just" bread!

We take too much things for granted people. Mother always said when we were little that it is not nice to throw out food and goods that can be reused in some way or another. "Think of all those people who don't even have a bread to eat. They sit around with a hurtful tummy because they have nothing to eat. How would they feel if they would see you being picky or throwing out food?" And that thought stayed with me until today.

In conclusion:
1. Don't throw out your food! Plan your menu in order to avoid having too much of it or buy stuff that wont go bad too soon.
2. Don't take things and people for granted! EVER!
3. Say thanks!
4. GIVE! Share!

Swedish houses

A big LOVE for this!

I love the fact that these houses are flat, eco, simplistic and full of light! Big windows you know.
Here are a few examples of what I mean:

At first sight these houses just seem too... well, simple and plain.
So why do I love them?

1. There are perfect for beach houses or right on the side of a lake.
2. Light! A LOT of light. <>
3. Non complicated, simple, yet very elegant houses.
4. I absolutely don't like overcrowded houses, so these kind of "only the strictly necessary" houses are just my kind ;)
5. These just seem to be some feng shui :) a lot of light, nothing seems to be blocking any flowing energies (nothing in these really, so no wander that nothing is blocking <>).
6. Just perfect for a relaxing weekend, a getaway or a romantic weekend spent with you loved one. Isn't it?

Of course there are smaller versions of Swedish houses, which are easy&quick to build. I am also guessing that the smaller ones are even cheap to build (comparing to a normal brick building).

The only thing that seems to be bugging me at these houses: how safe is it to live in one of these? In the end it is just glass which can be broken in a few seconds...
Yes, I know, I just ruined the whole "light" euphoria with my last pessimistic remark, but that is just me :)

Well, do not get me wrong, not me. I still have too little experience in blogging and too little time invested in it. I would love to write here every day, but I just dont get the chance.
There is an old saying "life is what happens while you wait for it to happen", well I am not waiting around. I have a thousand things to do and I am busy doing it :) so I guess I ear your forgiveness for not being here around too much. I do apologise for it although!

Returning to the subject at hand : the title!

First and maybe the weirdest :
1. Love baking and cooking sweet stuff, but don't really like eating them. Weird, huh?

2. Love cupcakes ! to bake them, not to eat them, again :D
3. Don't like peanut-butter. I know, I'm a renegade now :))) But I do like peanuts and using peanut butter in recipes and cookies :)
4. Love movies! All kind: old, new, comedy, artistic, drama, crime, just don't show me horror movies! I will have "day nightmares" for years! I know movies are not real, but still cannot hold back in thinking that some weirdo out there might just put those sick things into real stories. Brrrr...
5. I follow around 100 blogs, but because I work around 10 hours / day I never get to actually read all of them... and than I complain about it :P

OMG! it is 2011

phew! 2010 has passed... when? Darn, time passes so quickly! That is actually a :) and :( thought.
I have finally moved and have a normal sized kitchen. Finished with 2x2 m kitchen, although it was fun and interesting to get along in that tiny little kitchen.
Well this one isn't huge enough (yeah,it is true, you can never truly satisfy a woman:P)either, but at least it is an upgrade from what I had.
I have almost forgotten what a bug it is to move and especially what a bug it is to move in and arrange your stuff. And we have a LOT of stuff, we just realised this.
This kitchen may be bigger, but I do not have space for my spices and other cooking "need to have"s. Need to buy some shelves!
My BF doesn't have space for his IT stuff (do not ask for details, I have no idea what most of those stuff are, the way that he has no idea what spice is used for what:))).
Now that is a paradox. We got along just fine in a tiny apartment and now in a bigger one "we don't have space".
We are not finished with the unpacking, the house is a mess and we realised that we need to buy a bunch of stuff.
So wish us luck and patience! :)

Finally, financial year end close is over! darn, I hate it :P
It is a busy, busy, busy period of the year that doesn't even let U breath, let alone let you be... creative for example. You wake up working and go to bed working.
But at the end of the period U feel satisfied and proud that you're overcome something "hard to do" and "not for everyone". It makes you feel a bit special ;)
Although in this case it means U're a serious geek :)))

Now coming back to some pleasant stuff...
I don't even know where to start. I want to cook, to make some bead jewellery, to post you some recipes, to surf the net for more inspiration, to create some Christmas decorations I can sell next week on the ... brrr, what to do, what to do?

SSB : Homemade Mayonnaise

I don't know how many of you actually still do the mayo "inhouse" but it is worth it, believe me. Also, quite simple and uncomplicated.
The only mayo I bought was a Hellman's one, quite good actually, but still doesn't beat the REAL one ;)

Where to start, where to start...

Prepare the following:

1 Egg yolk - raw
1 Egg yolk - boiled - if you want a smaller quantity
1 tablespoon of mustard - any kind U like, I personally like the Dijon one ;)
oil - sunflower oil, olive oil, etc, whatever you prefer, but for the sake of a smoother taste choose one that doesn't have a very powerful taste on its own

optional:
lemon zest

Let's get to it, shall we?

Add one raw egg yolk and one spoon of mustard. If you need just a little bit of mayonnaise then add a boiled egg yolk as well, it will get thicker quicker with less oil ;) If you need more, a raw one will do it.

Mix together with a wooden spoon. Don't use metallic spoon or bowl when making mayonnaise. Keep it natural : porcelain, wood, glass, etc.

Mom always tells me to mix it always in one direction else the mayo will be spoiled... I don't know if that is true, never tried it :P

Add a bit of oil to the egg and mustard mixture. About a spoon or two at a time. Then mix. When its incorporated, put another spoon, and another spoon of oil.... and another, until you're bored :))) kidding! Add oil until it becomes hard enough that when you raise the spoon from the bowl, the mayo that is on the spoon, will not drop back in the bowl. It will look a bit elastic. Then you can stop.

You will see that even if you start up with barely something at the bottom of your bowl, by the 5th spoon of oil, you will have your bowl half full. IT GROOOWWWSSS! :))

Another tip, if by mistake you put in more then a bit of oil, don't panic, just start mixing it fast, with wider spins, you will see that it incorporates fast, no reason for panicking ;) I do not recommend you though to do this at your first attempt, you might not have enough practice yet, but if happens, just mix fast. Go, go, go!

Season with salt and pepper, just a bit. Add the lemon zest if you think that the mayo is way to ...oily. Some like it, some not, so test it how you like it. I personally like it plain, no lemon for me plsss :)

Now, you have your home made, all natural mayonnaise. Enjoy however you like it :)

SSB: Baked Potatoes - Jamie Oliver style

yes, I know, I am a traitor. I said I'll come back with a recipe and I didn't. Mea culpa!
BUT to recuperate, today I will post two recipes :D

So, first I choose a simple yet very tasty recipe which can be done regardless of season: Baked Potatoes.
Even if this is a widely popular recipe, everyone has a different way to do it.
I usually just bake a potato in tinfoil with some butter. Before you put this in the oven or on the barbecue don't forget to make some wholes in the potato with a fork, the butter will go in deeper in it and taste better even in the centre of the it, no just on the surface.
Jamie's version is even better, because it gets the butter and the herbs taste into the potato evenly.
I found the recipe over here, on his site and I had to try ;)

So for two persons U'll need:

2 bigger potatoes (or 4 if you have smaller ones)
2 garlic cloves, peeled and thinly sliced
2 tablespoons of butter
pepper and salt
thyme (or other herbs that you prefer)
optional: bacon or ham (whatever you prefer)

Chop up the garlic and slice the potato into 1 cm slices (not too thin though).

Spread the slices out on the tinfoil and put a bit of butter, garlic and herbs on each slice. Also, a bit of salt, pepper and the bacon if you choose to use some ;)

Now, reassemble the potato (I feel like a kid who disassembled the toy just to see what's in it :)))

SSB: Lunch Boxes And A Pretty Red Pan

Remember that I was talking a while back about lunch boxes and that I NEED to buy a cute one?
Well (and this is interesting) I bought a Chinese made lunch box in a Japanese goods store :)))
It's quite cute. I bought one for me and one for my BF. I guess I don't need to explain which is who's ;)

So, the yellow (actually it is a light green-yellow combination, but in the picture it is quite yellow) one is MINE and MINE alone :D and the blue one is my BF's. We clarified that he wouldn't of liked the pink or the red version or the yellow/green one so he was ok with the blue one ;)

As you can see it is a typical lunch box, nothing unusual about it, but I still find them very cute :)
If you are out of ideas on what to put in your lunch box here are some good ideas from a very talented cook (in my humble opinion). Her name is Meeta and she runs the site "What's for lunch, Honey?". Step by to visit her.

Also, as I went out shopping (actually for food, but I cant help it if other stores got in the way as well)I also bought myself a new frying pan.
When I was little I could not understand how my mom can be happy for receiving anything that she would use in the kitchen. It was beyond my understanding! I always thought that she should kick my dad's behind for not buying her a perfume or a nice outfit or anything else more ... prettifying.
Well, now I start to get her. I cannot tell you how happy I was when I found this ceramic covered red pan. It's extra nice and it's supposed to he healthier than the usual non-stick pans.

I fell in love with it at first site :)
As I was restless I already tried it and it is different in the most positive way possible.

I always had a soft spot for redheads,but Emma is just gorgeous. When I saw one of her pictures I was thinking "where did I see her??? Her face is so familiar". A deeper research was needed, so I asked the help of the great IMDB for help. Looking at her movies I realised I saw her in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, she was the 'Past girlfriend', although not as pretty as in reality :)

Boudoir

Pretty upset folks... Why?
Well, while I wrote about this a long time ago, it still bugs me. People nowadays mistake boudoir with sexy half naked girl images, that should not be the case.
Boudoir is a lady's private space, dressing room and NOT sex. Yes, she might have some in her private room, but that is not the point here.
Boudoir photography invaded the net(I still don't really understand how some soon-to-be-brides are comfortable with their sexy images invading the net, but that is their issue) and everyone forgot from where the word comes from.
I could luckily find one lady who still seems to appreciate the real value of a boudoir and I quote her below:

Every woman should have a boudoir. While the definition of a boudoir is a private room or dressing room, I like to think a boudoir could be a corner of your bedroom where you can go to pretty yourself up, powder your nose, spritz on some perfume...
There is a certain feeling that the word "boudoir" evokes. I always imagine lace, chiffons, pearls, delicate rosettes, tiny trinkets that glitter and sparkle in the sunlight.

How refreshing to know that some people actually do their homework.
While others ask stupid questions - like I got one - : "are you posting naked women pictures?" This came from someone who obviously has no idea of the real world. I got this question from a "he", so we can forgive him his ignorance on this little slip :P

I'm more of a Jamie Oliver fan, but I have heard a few things about Nigella. Although curious, I never reserved the time to look her work up, until I accidentally stumbled upon her thoughts on cooking on www.channel4.com.
I must admit that I recognise myself in these thoughts.

Tibetan Rites

Haha! It's funny how sometimes life links moments of life together..
For example, last time I wrote you about Tibetan Rites and then I had a doctors appointment as my back hurts sometimes (I do spend a loooot of time in front of the computer) to recommend me an exercise plan for back pains. What do you think? He talked to me about.... ???... Tibetan Rites, that's right. How is that for coincidence?!
So now, want it or not, I will try them :P
Autumn is here, so I am feeling a little lazy and comfy and melancholic.

I cannot help it! I'm just adding blogs I NEED to read to my google reader on a daily basis! And then I complain that I don't have the time to read all of them :)
But I cannot help it! When you find blogs that are totally awesome and you just NEED to know what is going to be posted next on that particular blog, then there is no other option than to add it to the "to be followed" list :D (without later complains)

Presenting "Sweet, Sour, Bitter" Posts - Testimonial

I'm going to present to you from now on my adventures in the kitchen.
One thing about me is that I (almost) never respect a recipe to the letter, it is always personalized according to what comes in my mind (and my fridge:D) per the moment. I recommend you to try it. It is fun and you may just discover some new recipe that you will love more then the original one.

Cooking for me is fun, passionate, relaxing and healthy.

I have an extra small 2x3 m kitchen, but that will not stop me from cooking and eating what I want and love.

You will not find in my post way too healthy and obsessively clean cooking, because cooking is not about that!!!
Cooking is fun and adventurous and passionate and free.
"Free your mind and the rest will follow" said an old song, and that is what cooking should do to you as well.
Be open minded, relaxed and HUNGRY and I warranty, there will be little possibility for you to do something uneatable :)))

I am also not against meat or cooked food or anything else that became an obsession to people nowadays and are trying (unsuccessfully may I add) to prove that they are stronger then their own instincts and body.
Eat what your body is asking for, don't listen to everyone (unless they are nutritionists)! Eat a bit of everything. Diversity is the key and diversity is the only thing I ask from my food. Don't build up frustration! Rather cut down on the volume of "not so healthy food" or even better, find a healthy alternative, then to build up frustration. Think healthy and delicious!

I honestly admire vegans and vegetarians. I would never be able to do that.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE vegetables and fruits (they are the major part of my diet), but I could never give up a juicy fish fried on the BBQ or a chicken made in the oven with some potatoes and herbs... yamm, I'm hungry already :D
So if you don't share my point of view, just cut me some slack and move on.

My mom and grandma are my mentors when it comes to cooking, but I am proud to say that I posses a serious dose of born talent :P How much? well... I guess you will need to stick around and find out ;)

Hello!

Soooo, we're here! Welcome to the new blog. Here is the link to my old blog in case you stumbled upon this one the first time.
Isn't this great?
I love the background, just fits perfectly the name of my blog. I know it's a standard Blogger background, but when you love something, you just do, you don't question a girls taste ;)
Finally one single blog, unified and easier to write to as I have more topics to write about, not 3 different blogs with different topics.
Maybe you don't know, but I was also starting a cooking blog for which I have at least 30 recipes ready to post and more coming every time I get into the kitchen :)))
From now You will see those here too, hope you'll enjoy it.
Later on today I will post the "testimonial" for that part of my blog as well, so You know where I stand related to this topic.
I will also post some of my craft projects which I unfortunately neglected for the last couple of years, but this cannot go on any more! This is one of the things that makes me happy and neglecting it just builds up frustration. As much as I don't have time for it, I will NEED to make time for it.
And third (but certainly not least!) I will continue posting stuff that I find inspirational, amazing and beautiful wherever I may stumble upon then. Stuff that make you go from "WOW!" to "OMG!", stuff that make you think, stuff that make you think "Why didn't I came up with this idea?" or "I want one of those!". You know what I mean! ;)
